496-8603. The National Cancer Institute intends to negotiate a one year
extension of related activities to the existing contracts with the
seventeen State health departments who are contractors under the
American Stop Smoking Intervention (ASSIST) Study for Cancer
Prevention. The goal of the ASSIST project is to reduce cancer
mortality rates through reduction of tobacco use and this extension
will allow contractors to continue effective smoking prevention and
control activities within their communities through September 1999.
Inherent duplication of cost to the Government and unacceptable delays
in continued implementation of this project make competition
unfeasible for this contract action. The deadline for response is 45
days from the date of this synopsis. Authority: 41 USC 253 (c) (1),as
set forth in FAR 6.302-1. See Numbered Note 22. (0212) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0008 19970804\A-0008.SOL)
