This award will be made for the purpose of establishing a weekend passenger shuttle bus program for visitors to the Point Reyes National Seashore Headlands Area of Point Reyes National Seashore in Marin County, CA. Buses will be required to transport approximately 800-1,200 visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the peak visitation season of late December through March. A staging area as well as 1-3 shuttle stops encompass a shuttle bus loop of approximately 20 miles with an estimated 40 minute round trip travel time. Three buses (with operators) will be required each Saturday and Sunday. Buses to have 40-53 person capacity with handicap accessibility. Scheduling will be based on staggered starting times from 9 to 10 a.m. and staggered finishing times from 5 to 6 p.m. Buses will be used on narrow roads in sensitive vegetation and related habitat areas. Given the variability in weather conditions at the Headlands area, there will be an occasional need to cancel buses the morning of or night before undesirable days. Cancellation pricing and policy information will be requested to determine the most economically advantageous program plan and to assist the National Park Service in developing contingency plans.
