44 -- NEUTRON GUIDES!! SOL 52SBNB6C9027 POC Joan Smith (301) 975-6458 WEB: NIST Contracts Homepage, http://www.nist.gov/admin/od/contract/contract.htm. E-MAIL: NIST Contracts Office, Contract@nist.gov. The U.S. Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Reactor Radiation Division has a requirement for the fabrication of neutron guides for the Cold Neutron Research Facility (CNRF). The requirement is for the supply of neutron guides of varying cross-sections and lengths, fabricated of different material and coated with different elements. Guide materials are required to be "bokron" glass, float glass, or silicon; the coatings are required to be Ni-58 or coatings providing at least two times the critical angle of reflection of normal Ni. All guides are required to be furnished with external mirrors for alignment (autocollimation). Specific requirements are: (1) Construction -- All guide elements are to be machined and glued according to the Government's specifications; (2) Reflectivity -- All guides made with Ni-58 or its equivalent are required to possess a reflectivity of at least 99 percent (average value between zero and the critical angle). All guides made with critical angles twice, or greater, than 95 percent. The corresponding substrates shall be polished to provide the required reflectivities; (3) Stability -- The coatings are required to show no degradation in performance in temperatures up to 100 degrees Centigrade, or in radiation field (neutron and gamma) to which the neutron guides are typically exposed; and (4) Adhesion -- The coatings are required to be permanently bonded to the glass substrates with sufficient adhesion to resist removal by Scotch tape (3M brand) #810). -- It should be noted that this is a continuation of an existing indefinite delivery indefinite quantity contract with Compagnie Industriele des Lasers (CILAS), France -- The period of performance is for one additional year to the contract. -- See Number Note 22 and 26. ***** (0213)
