E-MAIL: Click here to contact the Contracting Officer via e-mail, lakin_n@crane.navy.mil. This solicitation is a SOURCES SOUGHT for Cartridge, 12 Gauge Slug (Anti-Material). The purpose of this cartridge is to be used against soft and light non-armor targets. The cartridge shall be fired from smooth bore Shotguns and shall not cause any additional wear to the barrels than that associated with common lead slugs. The slugs may be coated to help prevent any additional wear on the barrels. Salient Characteristic: the cartridge shall meet the following characteristic: a) Projectile Weight: 1 ounce (Min) -- 1 1/4 ounces (Max); b) Projectile Length: 2 3/4 inches (Min) -- 3 inches (Max); c) Accuracy: The Extreme Spread, @ 50 yds, of any individual five (5) shot group shall be 5.0 inches maximum and the avg Extreme Spread of all twenty 5-shot groups shall be 4.0 inches Max.; d) Projectile Integrity: When fired into Ballistic Gelatin (20% by Weight)@ 15 ft from the muzzle, the projectile shall not fragment and shall retain 90% of nominal weight; e) Windshield Glass: @ 100 yards, the projectile shall penetrate windshield glass in compliance with SAE J938 and retain it's integrity; f) Light Armor: @50 yards, the projectile shall demonstrate full penetration of 10 gauge (.135 inch) thickness AISI 1010 to 1020 steel plate with a hardness between RB 55(Min) and RB 70 (Max); g) Chamber Pressure: 15,000 psi maximum (measured with a peizo-electric transducer); h) Muzzle Velocity: Should be set to achieve Ballistic Requirements.
