COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 11,1997 PSA#1906Social Security Administration, Office of Acquisition and Grants, 1710
Gwynn Oak Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21207-0696 70 -- ELECTRONIC PRINT JOB TRANSFER SOFTWARE PROGRAM DUE 082597 POC
MONICA M. YANKLE Tel: 410-965-9591 The Social Security Administration's
Office of Publications Management (OPUM) is in the process of
transitioning from a labor intensive, paper-based, offset printing
facility to an electronic print on demand environment. The intent of
this new environment is to allow OPUM's customers to produce only the
number of copies required for a certain activity or event, yet
retaining the ability to produce additional copies at a later time. One
of OPUM's proposed future strategies is to allow for documents to be
electronically sent to them directly from their customers. Accordingly,
OPUM is exploring the possibility of using a Commercially available
off-the-shelf (COTS) electronic print job transfer software program
that would allow for the reproduction of documents by receiving them
via electronic interface, rather than producing photographic-type
copies by traditional methods. To facilitate the transference of
documents within the Agency, a COTS software program is required that
will automatically deliver customer's print jobs directly to OPUM via
the Agency's communication network. This software program should
contain, at a minimum, the following features: (1) ease of use -- point
and click capability; (2) job ticketing; (3) automatic file
compression; (4) ability to support multiple work processing
environments, and (5) compatible with Windows 3.1, Windows NT 4.0,
Windows 95, and Windows 97, and (6) compatible with multiple connection
platforms, i.e. LAN/WAN, Intranet, etc. Interested GSA schedule and
non-schedule vendors who feel they can provide the required software
program are invited to respond in writing, NO FAXES, complete
information to support the stated capabilities. Information provided
must be submitted in duplicate and sufficiently detailed to allow for
a technical evaluation. If the software program is covered by a GSA
Schedule contract, a copy of the contract and/or GSA Schedule number
should be provided. Vendors may be requested to provide a demonstration
of their proposed software solution. Any questions or clarifications
concerning this announcement and the requirements herein must be
submitted in writing. This is not a Request for Proposal (RFP), and the
Government does not intend to pay for the information solicited or
received. THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION and is considered to be
Market Research. Respondents will not be notified of the results of any
evaluation of the source data received. Requests for copies of a
solicitation will not be honored or acknowledged. Interested parties
must respond to this notice in writing within 15 calendar days from the
date of this publication. ALL RESPONSES TO THIS ANNOUNCEMENT MUST
