N -- MAGNETIC ALIGNMENT OF STATIC MOMENT SENSORS, NAVAL SUBMARINE BASE, TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, KINGS BAY, GA. SOL N47408-97-Q-1521 DUE 091097 POC Anita Norris, Contract Specialist, (202) 433-5310/Fax (202) 433-5344 or Rita D. Palmore, Contracting Officer, (202) 433-5313 This project will be UNRESTRICTED. The Navy is in the process of replacing seventeen (17) SMS magnetometers in the Magnetic Silencing Range at the Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, Ga. The range is located in the navigation channel in Cumberland Sound, adjacent to the Magnetic Treatment Facility. Each magnetometer is suspended in an eight inch diameter bottom-embedded fiberglass tube at 60 feet MLLW. An alignment device connects the magnetometer to a PVC cap that seals the top of the magnetometer tube. Completion of the magnetometer replacement is expected near the end of August 1997. Magnetic alignment of the 17 magnetometers is planned for mid September 1997. Prior to alignment, the contractor will be required to remove any material, either by airlifting or waterjetting, that has silted in or around the tubes. Alignment is accomplished by the rotation of the tube cap until the desired alignment is achieved. The alignment process will require that divers are in communication with the surface. Government technicians will provide real-time magnetometer data to the contractor, via radio communications, that will allow proper alignment of each magnetometer. Requests for the solicitation may be mailed to Naval Facilities Engineering Command Contracts Office, WNY, Bldg 218, 901 M Street, SE, Washington, DC 20374-5063 or sent via facsimile by using (202) 433-5244. Contractors within the local area are encouraged to pick up a copy of the solicitation at Bldg 218 (third floor) of the WNY between the hours of 0730 and 1500, Monday-Friday. There will be no charge for these documents, however, there will only be one set issued per contractor. The solicitation will be available approximately fifteen days after this notice appears in the Commerce Business Daily. The proposal due date shall be fourteen days after the solicitation is made available to the public. The projected award date is September 1997. Proposals should be submitted to the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Contracts Office (NAVFACCO), Bldg 218, 901 M Street, SE, WNY, Washington, DC 20374-5063. (0220)
