is for World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) Lagrangian Surface
Velocity Program Barometer (SVP-B) Drifters to support Navy operational
forecast functions. The WOCE SVP-B Drifter is an autonomous drifter
capable of operating in the open sea and follow water parcels
vertically averaged over a drogue of height 6-7 meters centered 15
meters or 100 meters below the water surface. Drifters will provide
measurements of barometric pressure and sea surface temperature. Water
mass drift (15 meters or 100 meters) will be calculated by the
positions determined through Service Argos. The primary function of the
drifter is to provide a platform that will drift with the water mass
centered 15 meters or 100 meters beneath the water surface and provide
meteorological and/or oceanographic measurements reporting through the
TIROS (ARGOS) satellite system for data dissemination and platform
position determination. The drifter shall have a minimum operational
life of twelve (12) months. Government specifications will be provided
with the solicitation. The solicitation, N62306-97-R-0002, will be
issued on or about 30 Sep 97 with a closing date 45 days thereafter. An
Indefinite Delivery/ Requirements Contract will be issued for an
estimated quantity of 20 units per year to be acquired from date of
award through 30 Sep 02. Delivery will be required within 45 -- 60 days
after issuance of delivery order. Delivery to be made to Naval
Oceanographic Office, Stennis Space Center, MS. Written requests for
