Holland, bholland@pica.army.mil. The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC, in support
of PM Small Arms, is conducting a Market Survey to identify potential
sources of a compact, lightweight accessory shotgun for attachment
below the barrel of the M16A2 Rifle and M4 Carbine. The following
proposed characteristics apply: (a) caliber:12 gage; (b) method of
operation: manually operated repeating action is acceptable,
semiautomatic action is desired; (c) ammunition capacity, including one
chambered cartridge: four cartridges minimum, six cartridges desired;
(d) unloaded weight, including attachment hardware: 3.5 lb. maximum,
3.0 lb. desired; (e) effective range with standard 2.75" oo Buckshot
ammunition: 30 meters minimum, 40 meters desired; (f) service life:
3000 rounds minimum, 5000 rounds desired; (g) positive, ambidextrous
safety; (h) compatible with 2.75" and 3 " lethal ammunition, as well as
breaching and nonlethal ammunition, without adjustment of the operating
system; (i) major components must be of modular design, permitting
field stripping and routine maintenance at operators level without
tools, using standard DOD lubricants and solvents; (j) interchangeable
at the individual component and major subassembly levels without
hand-fitting; (k) attachable to the M16A2 Rifle and M4 Carbine without
special tools, and without requiring permanent weapon modification;
(l) compatible with interchangeable choke tubes, incorporating a mozzle
device to minimize firing signature and provide compatibility with
breach- ing ammunition; (m) functional after exposure to adverse
environmental conditions, such as extreme temperatures, salt water
immersion, sand and mud; (n) durable, corrosion resistant
non-reflective surface finish. Interested parties should submit, at no
