COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 20,1997 PSA#1913OSD INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYMPOSIUM Theme: Information Technology: The
Leverage for Military Dominance. September 22-24, 1997, Crystal City
Marriott, Arlington, VA -- Unclassified This conference will examine
the evolving roles of information technology to enable our nation's
continued dominance in military affairs. Given that DoD's role in
international matters -- both warfighting and peacekeeping -- is
becoming more diverse, DoD must consider all strategies to meet these
demands. Information technology is the enabler for many of these
strategies. Rapid changes in information technology are being matched
by rapid changes in national security needs and support structures. The
Information Technology Management Reform Act of 1996 (the Clinger-Cohen
Act) opens the door for broadening partnerships among Federal Agencies
and between the Federal government and private enterprise. The
Quadrennial Defense Review, proposed legislation, and task force
studies point to further change in Defense organizations and
operations. Leaders from DoD and industry will give their candid
assessments of present and proposed DoD information capabilities. They
will also offer proposals and solutions to continue our nation's
information superiority. WEB: Click here for more information on
