(LMITCO), P. O. Box 1625, MS 3805, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-3805 A -- RSP
Tooling Program, Contact: Carolyn Roberts. The Idaho National
Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL), through its M&O
Contractor LMITCO, and in conjunction with the National Center for
Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS), is forming a new collaborative project
focused on Rapid Tooling. A project formation meeting is scheduled at
the INEEL on September 9, 1997. The INEEL's RSP Tooling technology
combines rapid solidification processing ("RSP") and net-shape
materials processing in a single step. By utilizing this process for
net-shape tooling, savings accrue from integrating tool fabrication as
an integral part of the agile production system. This process has
successfully fabricated tooling in a variety of metal alloys, from
relatively soft Kirksite (zinc-aluminum-copper) to hard tool steels
such as D2, H13, and P20. The INEEL is seeking potential partners who
would like to contribute cash or in-kind contributions for the $3M
scale-up of this technology. If you are interested in either receiving
more information regarding this program, or in discussing your
possible role in this collaborative effort, please contact Carolyn
Roberts, LMITCO, at: phone: 208-526-7631; fax: 208-526-0953; or e-mail:
