COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 28,1997 PSA#1919FORCE PROTECTION BATTLELAB INDUSTRY DAY INVITATION The USAF'S Force
Protection Battlelab (USAF FPB) is a unique new organization
established to identify innovative concepts for protecting Air Force
personnel, facilities, and weapons systems and to rapidly measure their
potential worth. The FPB will use various methods to test these
concepts, to include: field ingenuity, modeling and simulation, and
actual employment of exploratory capabilities in exercises and
operational environments. To stimulate interaction and input from
industry on how technology can be applied to meet objectives, the
Battlelab in conjunction with the Air Force Association is hosting an
Industry Day. Industry Day will detail current FPB initiatives and
highlight areas of interest for future initiatives. It will also
provide industry representatives with the direction to find specific
solutions to force protection problems. Some of the initiatives the
Battlelab is currently exploring are: (1) Unmaned Aerial Vehicles as a
platform for survellance, explosive and NBC detection, as well as
lethal and non-lethal applications; (2) Explosive Detection; (3)
Delay/Denial for Nuclear Security; (4) Non-lethal devices for
operations other than war; (5) Modeling and Simulation Capabilities for
mission planning, tactics evaluation and command and control; (6)
Chemical and Biological Detection. In addition to the presentations
mentioned above, the Battlelab will discuss procedures for their
interactions with industry. The Industry Day will be held on 9 October
1997 at 0900 at the Gateway Club on Lackland Air Force Base, Texas
(San Antonio, TX). Please RSVP to MSgt John Farris at (210)-671-0058 no
