synopsis/ solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with
the format in subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information
included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only
solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written solicitation
will not be issued. Solicitation 691-99-97 is being issued as a
request for proposal and incorporates pro- visions and clauses in

CODE 5047 applies. The phaco unit must include and integrated
phaco-emulsifier system, irrigator aspirator system, coagulation
system, automated hydrosonics system, and anterior vitrectomy system

while providing a thermal barrier to the incision (ie. no thermal burn
to the corneo-scleral area which would adversely affect patient visual
outcome). The phaco unit must be able to accomodate both standard,
micro, Kelman-Mackool phaco-tips. The unit must have a wire- less
remote which can be operated under sterile conditions or remotely off
the sterile field. The unit must have dedicated individual programmable
physician memory settings. The phaco handpiece must be of 4 crystal
design and offer constant admittance tuning (tunes 100 times per
second). The unit must be of computerbased design and be floppy port
upgradable. The phaco unit pump must be of turbostaltic design
(offering individual vacuum and aspiration capability). The console
must adapt to upgradable video-overlay, steerable I/A, automated IOL
delivery, and automated capsulorhexis to facilitate physician training
and development. The console must have 2 individual (separate) phaco
handpiece ports. The following provisions apply to this procurement:
