synopsis/solicitation for commercial item prepared in accordance with
the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional
information included in the notice. This announcement constitutes the
only solicitation. Quotations are being requested and a written
solicitation will not be issued. This synopsis/solicitation number
97-204(Q) is issued as a Request for Quotation. This solicitation
document incorporates provisions and clauses in effect through Federal
Acquisition Circular 90-46. This procurement is Set Aside for Small
Businesses. The standard industrial classification code (SIC) is 3577.
Small business size standard: Average number of employees 1,000 or
less. DESCRIPTION OF COMPUTER PERIPHERAL: The CDC has a requirement for
an existing, commercial, off-the-shelf, laser-based, color digitizer.
The digitizer shall simultaneously obtain color and surface geometry
images. Twenty-four bit or better color shall be used. Spatial
resolution shall be 628 um or better in the vertical direction and 100
to 400 um or better in depth (distance from the digitizer). The field
of view shall be 260 to 340 mm vertical or better and 300 mm depth.
The sampling speed shall be 14,580 points per second or better.
Communications with the controlling computer workstation shall be via
SCSI. The digitizer shall be 100% hardware, software, and data format
compatible with Cyberware PS and MS Motion Platforms and associated
electronics, and Cyberware Echo and CyDir software and all subroutines,
sub-programs, and related programs, including image capture and motion
control routines running on Silicon Graphics workstations using IRIX
5.3 or higher operating systems. Proof of 100% compatibility may
include performance demonstrations using the CDC s existing Cyberware
PS and MS Motion Platforms and software (Cyberware Echo and CyDir
software and all subroutines, sub-programs, and related programs) and
Silicon Graphics workstations. Delivery will be F.O.B. Destination to
CDC, NIOSH 1095 Willowdale Rd, Morgantown, WV 26505-2845 FAR provisions

EVALUATION FACTOR: The Government will award a contract resulting from
this solicitation to the responsible offer or whose offer conforms to
this synopsis/solicitation and will be the most advantageous to the
Government price and technical capability of the digitizer to perform
government s requirement considered. Technical merit and price will be
of approximate importance. All responsible sources are encouraged to
respond in writing. All responses should contain sufficient technical
documentation or literature to describe the hardware and software
features. Offertory must include a copy of the provision at 52.212-3,
Offer or Representations and Conditions -- Commercial Items, with its
offer. The Contractor agrees to comply with the following FAR clauses,
