The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) conducts ongoing research in the development, characterization, and processing of dielectric and piezoelectric materials for the following: (a) high performance capacitors; (b) composite hydrophone structures, including ordered void PZT hydrophone, 1-1-3 hydrophone structure, 0-3 composite hydrophones and modified 1-3 sonar materials, and; (c) composite piezoelectric actuator configurations, including torsional and linear high authority actuators for smart structures. Contractor support is required for research pertaining to the installation, operation, characterization, and control of laboratory to pilot plant scale processes for preparation of advanced dielectric and piezoelectric materials, advanced, complex piezoelectric devices, similar processes for preparation of advanced, high energy density, high voltage capacitors, and to characterizations of these materials and devices for performance. The period of performance for the Base effort is 12 months with two 12 month options.
