COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 3,1997 PSA#1922National Cancer Institute, Research Contracts Branch, PSCS, 6120
Executive Blvd, Eps/room 638, Bethesda, MD 20892-7227 A -- SYNTHESIS OF 11 METABOLITES OF THALIDOMIDES SOL RFQ70191(nr) DUE
091897 POC Marsha Gorham, Purchasing Agent (301)402-4509 or Patricia
Haun, Contracting Officer The National Cancer Institute (NCI) proposes
to procure services involving the "Synthesis, Isolation, and
Purification of 11 Metabolites of Thalidomide" from Dr. Frederick
Luzzio, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY 40292. Background: The
Clinical Pharmacokinetics Unit of the Division of Clinical Sciences,
NCI, plans to evaluate the anti-tumor activity of 11 metabolites of
thalidomide. This research requires the services of an organic chemist
to develop new reactions to purify and isolate the 11 metabolites. The
chemist contractor will have to consider stability issues in the
reactions, and should use state-of-the-art technology such as mass
spectrometry and NMR. Information on the 11 metabolites and other
aspects of the requirement is available from the NCI purchasing agent
listed in this notice. Requirements: The contractor shall: (1) develop
an organic reaction to produce the 11 metabolites, (2) synthesize and
purify these structures, (3) isolate and stabilize the structures, (4)
assess purity with state of the art equipment, (5) provide supporting
data to backup the synthesis and purify, (6) provide 100 mg of each of
the compounds requested in a pure form, (7) write up a report of the
experiments, (8) maintain an accurate and well organized lab book of
data from this experiment, and (9) assist NCI in the preparation of a
manuscript of this experiment. This notice is a combined
synopsis/solicitation and NCI does not intend to issue a separate
solicitation. Dr. Luzzio is the only source known to the NCI that can
meet these requirements and this notice of intent is not a request for
competitive proposals. However, if any interested party believes it
can meet the above specification, it may submit a statement of
capabilities. Information furnished must be in writing and must contain
material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party
can perform the requirement. Capability statements must be received in
the contracting office within 15 days after the publication date of
this notice. See Note 22 (0241) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0005 19970903\A-0005.SOL)
