NIDDK has recently identified a new protein that is involved in retroviral DNA integration. Current efforts are focused on understanding how it works. An important part of these studies is to investigate its function for the host cell using "KNOCKOUT" TECHNOLOGIES. At the end of the results there may be a need animal model. NIDDK is not equipped or experience to carry out this part of the project.
