Natick Research, Development and Engineering Center is conducting
market research to identify commercial sources for a small combat
shelter meeting the following requirements/needs: The shelter will
protect the soldier from rain, wind and snow, in climates ranging from
basic cold through hot, in all terrains. Desirable features of the
shelter are: (1) Capable of multiple configurations, as a canopy or
lean-to, as a stand alone pin and pole supported tent, and as a poncho
(without the hood); (2) Capable of combining with other (ICSs),
allowing additional room for multiple soldiers; (3) Weigh no more than
2 1/2 pounds, in a minimum configuration (without poles) and 4 pounds
in a standard configuration; (4) Woodland camouflage color (submittals
in earth tone or forest green colors will be acceptable); (5) Provide
ventilation and insect protection and be large enough to accommodate a
6 foot 5 inch male soldier lying down, along with individual equipment
(approximately 12 cubic feet). Interested parties should respond with
cost data, item literature, samples (if possible) and information
regarding production capacity. Vendors who submit items/samples
currently produced off-shore must certify that the items will be
produced in the USA if adopted by the U.S.Army. Federal Law (Berry
Amendment) prohibits the award of contracts for items of this type
produced outside the country. All information shall be considered
