COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 5,1997 PSA#1924Los Alamos National Laboratory, Mail Stop C331, P.O. Box 1663, Los

Jay Garcia, Civilian and Industrial Technologies Program Office, Los
Alamos National Laboratory, MS C334, TEL (505) 665-4842, FAX (505)
665-0154, or jgarcia@lanl.gov. The University of California, which
operates the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to
the Department of Energy, solicits interest from companies wishing to
license, develop and market a unique technology related to the
prolonged storage of red blood cells ("Technology"). This technology
includes a method using oxygen removal for extending the useful
shelf-life of refrigerated red blood cells over current refrigerated
blood storage procedures. A cost-effective 4 degree C storage procedure
has been developed that preserves red cell quality for prolonged
post-transfusion in vivo survival. In vivo results have been found to
support laboratory findings. The intellectual property associated with
the Technology is available for licensing on an exclusive basis. LANL
seeks to establish a royalty bearing commercial license with a
qualified organization. All organizations interested in licensing and
commercializing the Technology must provide proof, in a written letter
of interest, that they satisfy the following minimum criteria:
Interested parties must possess, or have access to, existing
capabilities in manufacturing, marketing and support services in the
domestic marketplace, preferably related to the storage of red blood
cells. Such organizations with interest in the above-mentioned areas
must respond with a statement of interest describing the organization's
technical expertise, manufacturing and marketing capabilities,
financial resources (e.g., annual report or corporate resume), and
motivation for participating in this program. Organizations should also
identify their interest, if any, in foreign patent protection,
including a discussion of potential countries in which to file. Any
interested organization selected as a Licensee will be expected to pay
for all foreign patent costs. All letters of interest must be received
by no later than Friday, September 26, 1997. The letter of interest
must contain all of the above requested information or the submitting
organization will not be considered as a possible candidate for
licensing. Los Alamos will formally invite those companies that respond
with a letter of interest, as outlined above, to submit business
proposals by no later than Friday, October 24, 1997. (0246) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0013 19970905\A-0013.SOL)
