DHHS/Program Support Center, Division of Acquisition Management, ADP Acquisitions Branch knows of one source, Research Triangle Institute (RTI), capable of collecting and providing Cycle 6 data of the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG) on sexual activity, contraceptive use, abortion, adoption, and other topics, utilizing Audio Computer-Assisted Self-Interviewing (Audio CASI). The purpose of the procurement is as follows: (1) project the memory and processing capacity of laptop computers, Audio CASI, and related software so that the National Center for Health Statistics will know how much of the NSFG interview can be collected with Audio CASI, touch-screen technology, or other advanced applications; (2) to assess the appropriateness of Audio CASI, or related technologies such as Audio CASI with touch screens, to collect data on topics covered in the 1995 NSFG, the National Survey of Adolescent Males, or the National Household Survey of Drug Abuse; and (3) to investigate and comment on possible waysto reduce respondent keying errors in Audio CASI. Since, RTI programmed and tested the CAI instrument for Cycle 5 of the NSFG, RTI is the only firm that we are aware of that possesses the combination of experience with the NSFG and other studies of sensitive behavior (including sexual behavior and drug use) using Audio CASI necessary to complete this requirement within the time constraints of the requirement. The period of performance shall be from September 26, 1997 through June 3, 1998. The Government intends to negotiate an award on a sole-source basis utilizing simplified acquisition procedures with Research Triangle Institute, 3040 Cornwallis Road, PO Box 12194, Research Triangle, NC 27709.
