office will issue Invitation for Bids for the construction of UPGRADE
ACADEMIC FACILITY, PHASE II, U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, COLORADO. Bids
will be opened on or about 12 November 1997. This solicitation is
unrestricted and open to both large and small business participation.
Site visits will be allowed on 15, 22 and 29 October and 5 November
1997. Site visits will begin at 10:00 a.m (Meet in connecting link
between the consolidation Education Training Facility (CETF) and
Fairchild Hall). Contractors should contact the Air Force Resident
Engineer, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Building 8110, U.S. Air Force
Academy, Suite #7, Colorado 80840, Telephone (719) 333-2973 or FAX
(719) 333-2979 to confirm attendance at any of these site visits. The
work will include the following: (Approx. quantities) Renovation to
various areas of Fairchild Hall (Bldg. No. 2354), U.S.A.F. Academy, CO.
The project consists of: 160,000 S.F. of extensive interior remodel
work including architectural, mechanical, electrical,
telecommunications, lifesafety and accessibility upgrades on the first,
second, forth and fifth floors as well as upgrades of all of the
existing stairwells of Fairchild Hall. Work includes: [1] Miscellaneous
square footage of support work in Mechanical & Electrical rooms,
utility chases, etc. to support the infrastructure work within the
remodeled spaces; [2] Replacement of the electrical infrastructure
including: replacement of 9 sets of medium voltage switches with 8 new
sets of medium voltage 15 KV class fused switches of equal capacity;
replacement of 5 low voltage main switchboards with 4 low voltage (480
V) switchboards of similar capacity; replacement of 10 motor control
centers; and replacement of electrical risers, panelboards, and
transformers within all 6 floors of the original building; [3]
Renovation work consists of: removals, interior walls (metal stud
w/drywall, CMU, etc), ceilings (acoustical tile, drywall, plaster,
etc.), interior glazing, doors (various types) & hardware, casework,
toilet room renovations, finishes (painting, ceramic tile, resilient
flooring, carpeting, etc.), roof penetrations, HVAC, ductwork, piping
& quipment, DDC (Landis & Staefa Control System), plumbing (cold/hot
water, sanitary, natural gas, demineralized water, lab compressed air,
etc.), electrical (distribution, lighting, grounding, etc.),
telecommunications (telephone, televideo, computer network, etc.), fire
protection (automatic sprinkler system, fire hose valves, etc.) fire
detection & alarm (reconfiguration of existing Kidde system, manual
pull stations, signaling appliances, smoke/heat detection, etc.),
hazardous waste removals & disposal (asbestos, lead based paint, PCB
(light ballasts), & mercury (fluorescent lamps)), and miscellaneous
interior concrete work. The estimated construction cost of this project
is between $7,500,000 and $10,000,000. Contractor's Quality Control
will be a requirement in this contract. The Contractor will be required
to commence work within 10 days after notice to proceed and complete
the work 570 calendar days after receipt of Notice to Proceed.
Provisions will be included for liquidated damages in case of failure
to complete the work in the time allowed. Performance and payment bonds
will be required. The plans and specifications are available on Compact
Disk (CD-ROM) and will be provided free of charge. It has been
determined that the number of Compact Disks be limited to one (1) per
firm. Plans and Specifications will not be provided in a printed hard
copy format. Contractors may view and/or download this project from the
