The Gemini 8m Telescopes Project is seeking qualified vendors to provide networking hardware components which meet the specifications of the existing design of our internal communications network, which includes interfaces to the Internet and the public switched network. These networks will involve ethernet LAN switching and routing over both CAT-5 and fiber-optics at a number of locations within Hawaii and Chile, plus the MAN and WAN systems to interconnect them utilizing ATM. The overall system must integrate with our videoconferencing and telephone systems. A comprehensive, off the shelf, network management package must be available to work with all networking hardware provided by the vendor. The Gemini 8m Telescopes Project is an international collaboration to build two 8 meter telescopes, one to be located on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, the other to be located on Cerro Pachon in Chile. The Gemini project partners include the USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Argentina, Brazil and Chile. The Gemini project is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA) under contract to the National Science Foundation.
