Tyndal L. Lindler, tlindler@mail.arc.nasa.gov. The National Aeronautics
and Space Administration (NASA), Ames Research Center, Numerical
Aerospace Simulation (NAS) Systems Division, intends to solicit
proposals under NASA Research Announcement (NRA), entitled Research in
Scientific and Engineering Databases for Aerospace Design Systems.
Proposals are solicited for research into various aspects of scientific
databases and scientific data management to support the program
objectives of the NAS Systems Division at the Ames Research Center. The
intent is to foster mutually beneficial technology transfer that
advances the management of large scientific data sets from
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and related aerosciences, and large
collections of such data sets. Current research interests include
topics such as scientific databases, tools for scientific metadata,
metadata (schema) evolution, alternative database technologies to
support scientific data, systems and memory hierarchy support for
analysis of extremely large (100 GB) data sets, and tools for
integrating data from multiple disciplines. The NRA will be available
electronically under Business Opportunities at
URL:http://Procure.arc.nasa.gov/ The expected release date of
NRA2-36834(TLL) is September 30, 1997. Proposals may be submitted
throughout the period ending December 30, 1997. Specific guidance for
proposal preparation will be in the NRA. Single awards will be
considered for up to $100,000 per year with access to computational
resources as required. Proposals may contain research plans for up to
three years for potential future renewals. Projected program funding is
expected to support up to five projects per year. Technical questions
should be addressed to Dr. Arsi Vaziri, email: vaziri@nas.nasa.gov,
Telephone:(650) 604-4523. All responsible sources may submit a proposal
which shall be considered by the Agency. (0259) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0005 19970918\A-0005.SOL)
