Mayor Clarence Harmon will be the kick-off speaker this year at the
Greater St. Louis Small Business Opportunity Conference on October 7,
1997. Following the Mayor, Ms. Sarah Summerville of the Office of Under
Secretary of Defense/Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization will
speak about Empowerment Contracting. This year's theme is "Mastering
the Future", with workshops designed to give minority, women-owned, and
small businesses the competitive edge in contracting with the
government and government prime contractors, as well as networking
opportunities to market to those same entitities. Again this year, the
conference will be sponsored by the Small and Disadvantaged Business
Opportunity Committee (SADBOC) of the St. Louis Federal Executive
Board, in conjunction with various government agencies, government
prime contractors, and business assistance organizations. Conference
workshops include Small Business Resources, Doing Business with NASA
via the Internet, Countdown to St. Louis 2004, and Developing Your
Business. A special workshop offered by the Orange, Texas Electronic
Commerce Resource Center (ECRC) will be offered on Business
Opportunities with the Department of Defense through Electronic Data
Interchange (EDI). The afternoon portion of the conference will feature
an exhibit area where attendees can network with government and
industry representatives. The conference will be held at Machinists'
Hall, 12365 St. Charles Rock Road (St. Charles Rock Road east of
I-270). It will be held from 8:00a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost of $ 35
