B -- NATIONAL WATERWAY NETWORK SYSTEM, IMPROVEMENT AND MAINTENANCE SOL DACW29-97-Q-0283 DUE 101597 POC Patricia Perkina, (504) 862-2876 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) intends to negotiate a university program management support services contract with Vanderbilt Engineering Center for Transportation Operations and Research, Vanderbilt University, for the continued development and improvement of the National Waterway Network (NWN) Geographic Information System (GIS). The activities of the USACE require periodic updates, improvements, and corrections to the NWN information system. Vanderbilt University facilitated the design and constructed the original NWN and has been responsible for NWN maintenance. Vanderbilt possesses an unparalleled working knowledge of the foundation GIS component of this system upon which much of the USACE's GIS effort is based. Maintaining this essential engineering and developmental capability, in accordance with FAR 6.302-3, is in the best interest of the government. (0260)
