The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC, Close Combat Armaments Center is seeking firms that can provide a non-toxic weapons cleaning process/material to replace the use of P-D-680, "Dry Cleaning and Degreasing Solvent". The present process utilizes a toxic solvent to dissolve burnt propellant residue, grease and other contaminants from disassembled weapons parts such as barrels, bolts, firing pins, etc. Extensive manual scrubbing is then required to remove the re- maining material. The replacement process/material must be capable of removing burnt propellant residue, grease and other contaminants. The process material must require the same or less manual labor than the present solvent based process. The process/material must use materials that are considered non-toxic in accordance with the Clean Air Act and Executive Order 12856. If the process/material is water based, it must include rust inhibiting process steps or characteristics. The process/material must be suitable for use at the weapons manufacturer's facility, at Army Depots and possible in the field. This is only a Market Survey, not a pre-solicitation notice. If a formal solicitation is generated at a later date, a pre-solicitation notice will be published. Respondents should submit their qualification data to the above address no later than COB 8 Oct 97.
