COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 25,1997 PSA#193868TH SHOCK AND VIBRATION SYMPOSIUM The Symposium is the oldest
continuously held meeting dealing specifically with the dynamic
structural behavior of air-, sea-, space-, and ground-vehicles and
structures, and with the physics of mechanical disturbance propagation
(seismic waves, air blast, ground shock, water shock, detonation
waves) in media. The Symposium was established in 1947, and serves as
a mechanism for the exchange of information among Government
activities, private industry, and academia on current work and new
developments in the field. This year's Symposium is sponsored by the
U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center (ATC) and the Electric Boat Corporation.
The secondary Government sponsor is the U.S. Army Research Laboratory
(ARL). The Symposium will be held at the Hunt Valley Marriott in Hunt
Valley, MD (just north of Baltimore, MD), 3-7 November 1997. The
keynote address will be delivered by Mr. John Gehrig, Deputy Director,
Resources and Ranges, Office of the Undersecretary of Defense
(Acquisition and Technology). The Elias KleinMemorial Lecturer is Dr.
David Brown, Chief, TECOM Simulation and Technology Division. Invited
speakers are Dr. George Lee, National Center for Earthquake Engineering
Research and Mr. Scott Walton, U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center. The
technical program includes unclassified sessions on Ballistic Shock
Panel, Data Archiving Panel, Earthquake, Acoustics, Composites,
Material Modeling, V&V, Data Analysis, Isolation, Products & Services,
Simulation Based Shock Qualification of Mechanical Systems, Ship
LFT&E, IEEE, UNDEX, Machinery Diagnostics, UNDEX, Simulation of
Underwater Explosion Effects, Precision Scale High Explosive
Experiments, Transient Analysis, Environmental Specifications, Dynamic
Measurements, Analysis Methods, Underwater Explosion Bubble
Technology, Blast, Isolation, Numerical Methods, Analysis Methods, and
Shock Testing. There will also be classified sessions on UNDEX,
Engineering for Cost Reduction, Blast & Shock, Ground & Air Combat
Vehicles LFT&E, Terrorist-Threat Protection, Isolation, Next Generation
Design, and Analystical Methods. A series of discussion groups on UNDEX
Compendium, Transient Dynamic Analysis Method (TDAM), material
Modeling, Data Acquisition, and Pyroshock are also planned. Thirteen
tutorials are planned for Monday, 3 November 1997. Networking events
include a golf tournament and 5k run scheduled for Monday morning, 3
November, an exhibitors luncheon and a dinner cruise on Wednesday, 5
November. The guest's program consists of an Annapolis and Naval
Academy Riding/Walking Tour on Tuesday, 4 November and a Balitmore City
Tour on Wednesday, 5 November 1997. There will be a tour of ATC on
Friday morning, 7 November 1997. The symposium is managed by the Shock
and Vibration Information Analysis Center (SAVIAC), The DoD's focal
point for research and analysis in the field of shock and vibration
technology. SAVIAC is run by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Waterways
Experiment Station (WES) through a contract with a private contractor,
Booz Allen & Hamilton, Inc. The latest program information is available
at our web site http://saviac.xservices.com. Also available is a
registration form that can be downloaded and faxed to SAVIAC at (703)
