COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 26,1997 PSA#1939Los Alamos National Laboratory, Mail Stop C331, P.O. Box 1663, Los
Alamos, NM 87545 A -- LASER ULTRASONICS FOR NON-CONTACT PROCESS MONITORING AND ON-LINE
MATERIAL CHARACTERIZATION SOL CITPO-97-188 POC Thomas C. Hale, PhD,
ESA-MT, Los Alamos National Laboratory, MS C914, (505) 665-0965, FAX
(505) 665-7176, or thale@lanl.gov. The University of California, which
operates the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to
the Department of Energy, solicits interest from companies wishing to
co-develop, and possibly license and market, a unique technology or
technical capability related to optical process monitoring and on-line
material characterization. In particular, the proposed collaboration
is based on the implementation of laser ultrasonic methods into
industrial processes and automation. Laser ultrasonics is the
non-contact, optical generation of acoustic waves in solids or liquids,
and their subsequent optical detection and analysis. In general, Los
Alamos has an extensive background acoustics, optical physics, and
material science, and we offer our expertise in solving problems
related to these areas with specific industrial applications in mind.
Correspondingly, the candidate company should have an well-developed
background in process/sensor integration, process control, and
automation. It is expected that this teaming of basic and applied
skills will be an effective and valuable asset for the industrial
partner as well as DOE weapons complex. The intellectual property
associated with the Technology is available for licensing on an
exclusive basis. LANL seeks to establish a royalty bearing commercial
license with a qualified organization. All organizations interested in
licensing and commercializing the Technology must provide proof, in a
written letter of interest, that they satisfy the following minimum
criteria: Interested parties must possess, or have access to, existing
capabilities in manufacturing, marketing and support services in the
domestic marketplace, preferably related to the industrial process
monitoring. Such organizations with interest in the above-mentioned
areas must respond with a statement of interest describing the
organization's technical expertise, manufacturing and marketing
capabilities, financial resources (e.g., annual report or corporate
resume), and motivation for participating in this program.
Organizations should also identify their interest, if any, in foreign
patent protection, including a discussion of potential countries in
which to file. Any interested organization selected as a Licensee will
be expected to pay for all foreign patent costs. All letters of
interest must be received by no later than Friday, September 26, 1997.
The letter of interest must contain all of the above requested
information or the submitting organization will not be considered as a
possible candidate for licensing. Los Alamos will formally invite
those companies that respond with a letter of interest as outlined
above, to submit business proposals by no later than Friday, October
24, 1997. (0267) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0006 19970926\A-0006.SOL)
