COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 26,1997 PSA#1939ARMY SMALL BUSINESS CHALLENGES & OPPORTUNITIES CONFERENCE/SEMINAR,
EVENT #862 Small business is "big business" in the Army. Last year the
Army awarded over $8 billion in direct contracts to small businesses.
However, the evolving business environment, tougher competition,
requirements which are often multidimensional, continued implementation
of acquisition reform measures, and the increasing importance of making
the right decision the first time, are but a few of the challenges and
changes occuring in the world of acquisition. This conference
addresses some of the important challenges and changes facing the
business and government acquisition communities, as well as the
excellent opportunities available for small businesses. This conference
brings together small business leaders and key Army decision makers,
from the top level to commanders in the field where acquisitions are
conducted. It provides a forum for direct exchange of information and
ideas between senior Army officials and small business leaders. The
Business Opportunities Fair, which is a significant feature of
theconference, will outline future business opportunities available in
the buying commands. Army acquisiton and technical personnel will be
available to address individual questions and concerns. Breakout
sessions on timely subjecs of interest are also included. Interaction
between small business leaders and Army officials is a key objective of
the conference. Major Features of the Conference will include: A
presentation by the Honorable Robert W. Walker, Assistant Secretary of
the Army (Installations, Logistics & Environment) and the Army
Acquisition Executive; a presentation by General Johnnie E. Wilson,
USA, Commanding General, Army Materiel Command; a presentation by Ms.
Tracey L. Pinson, Director, Small and Disadvantaged Business
Utilization, Office of the Secretary of the Army; a series of
interactive breakout sessions that will bring senior Army officials and
Small Business leaders together to examine/discuss topics of mutual
interest; and the Business Opportunities Fair, and networking
breakouts. The Conference will be held at the Springfield Hilton Hotel,
6550 Loisdale Rd., Springfield, VA, 22150, and will start at 3:15 p.m.,
Wednesday, November 12, 1997. The registration fee is $200.00 for
registrations received prior to October 30, 1997. There is a $50 for
