Inspect, test, evaluate, repair and/or overhaul Communications and Power Idustries(CPI) Traveling Wave Tubes(TWTs), NSN 5960-01-156-0426, used in the AN/GSC-52(V) 1 and 2 Terminals. A non-competitive negotiation is proposed with Communications and Power Industries, Inc., Traveling Wave Tube Products Division, Palo Alto, CA. IAW FAR 6.302-1(b)(1) CPI, as the original manufacturer, is the only known source with the detailed design knowledge of the internal components of the tubes they produce. Procedures to qualify another source would take one to two years. Interested sources have declined to undergo qualification procedures due to the upcoming AN/GSC-52 Modernization Program which will begin to replace the TWT in the year 2000. All responsible sources, however, may submit a proposal which shall be considered by the agency. See NOTES: 22, 26.
