COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 30,1997 PSA#1941MAMMOTH CAVE NATIONAL PARK, CONTRACTING & PROPERTY MGT., P.O. BOX 7,
MAMMOTH CAVE, KY 42259 56 -- RECYCLED PLASTIC OR COMPOSITE LUMBER PRODUCTS POC JOHN C.
BEAVER, CONTRACTING OFFICER, (502) 758-2254 WEB: MAMMOTH CAVE NATIONAL
PARK, maca_contracting@nps.gov. E-MAIL: MAMMOTH CAVE NATIONAL PARK,
john_beaver@nps.gov. Mammoth Cave National Park will be constructing a
raised boardwalk along portions of the cave tour route and will be
using recycled plastic lumber for the decking and handrail material.
Before selecting a specific recycled plastic lumber we are interested
in reviewing samples, specifications, and literature from manufacturers
or suppliers on their respective product(s). The decking material will
likely be 2 x 8's and the handrails 2 x 6's. In analyzing the
materials available we would like to know the feedstock composition
used in the production of the lumber, i.e., amounts of HDPE, PTE, LDPE,
waste wood, etc. In addition, some of the characteristics we are
particularly interested in include skid resistance, potential expansion
and contraction, potential warping, performance when exposed to
moisture, strength, durability and workability. Price will also be a
consideration. Approximately 600,000 visitors will use this walkway per
year, in groups of up to 120 people. If possible, we would like to
inspectsites where the products have been utilized for a walkway
application. If such locations are available in south-central Kentucky
or National Park units, please pass that information along with the
product samples and literature. (0269) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0163 19970930\56-0001.SOL)
