COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 1,1997 PSA#1942Naval Sea Logistics Center, P.O. Box 2060, 5450 Carlisle Pike,
Mechanicsburg, PA 17055-0788 D -- HOUSING AND MONITORING OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS RACKS SOL
N65538-98-Q-0001 DUE 101397 POC Contact Francis X. Duggan, Jr.,
Contracting Officer, 717-790-1481 DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: The Navsea
Enterprise Wide Area Network (NEWNET) utilizes a public carrier for
it's wide area backbone. This backbone service, Asynchronous
Transmission Mode (ATM), is provided to NEWNET by AT&T. In order to
service the Northeast United States, the Smart Link Project Office
seeks to maintain it's existing regional hub in an AT&T Central Office
in Washington, DC. NEWNET Hubs consist of racks of communications and
computer equipment. These devices must be: Housed where expansion is
available; Protected from unauthorized access; and, Operated in a
controlled temperature and humidity environment. In addition, Backhaul
connections must be eliminated. The only way to meet all of these
requirements is to locate the equipment within the carriers Central
Office. Since NEWNET is using AT&T network services (ATM, Private
Lines, Frame Relay; and ISDN, as required), AT&T is the only vendor who
can provide the resources and services required, without an
interruption of service to the NEWNET customer base. See Note 22.
