COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 2,1997 PSA#1943Commander, Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, Code 230000E, 521
N. 9th Street, Point Mugu, CA 93042-5001 66 -- DIGITAL WIND MEASURING AND INDICATING SYSTEM SOL N68936-97-Q-500
DUE 100397 POC Vicky Morris, Contracting Officer, Code 230000E The
Chief of Naval Operations (CNO, N096), the Naval Air System Command
(NAVAIR< PMA251E), and the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command
(SPAWAR, PMW185) are formulating requirements for the wind sensor
portion of the New Digital Wind Measuring and Indicating System
(NDWMIS) for Aircraft Carriers, Amphibious Assault, and Air Capable
Aviation Ships. This wind sensor will replace existing wind sensor
suites on all aviation-capable ships and is used to measure the wind
speed and direction, which is critical information for safe aircraft
operations on these ships. The wind sensor also provides data to the
automated data acquisition, processing, and distribution subsystem on
board these ships, known as MORIAH. Reliability and EMI/RFI/EMP are
also important requirements for this wind sensor, since it will be used
in sea/ship environments. The purpose of this Request For Information
(RFI) is to gain an understanding of the current state of the art of
wind sensor technology, Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) hardware
availability, Non-Development-Items (NDI) hardware availability,
industrial capabilities, and the cost to satisfy these U.S. Navy
requirements. Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWPNS),
Code 483300E, is planning a meeting at Point Mugu, California
93042-5001 on 18 November 1997 for any interested responder to brief
and/or demonstrate their candidate product(s), at no cost to the
Government. Responders planning to participate in this meeting should
contact Mr. Son Nguyen at (805) 989-0014 in order to coordinate their
attendance. A list of questions from the government will be provided
the responders to aid in preparing for the meeting. Since this is an
open invitation, we request that the responders limit their
briefings/demonstrations to 45 minutes maximum. Questions or requests
for clarifying information should be forwarded no later than 18 October
1997, the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWPNS), Code
483300E, Point Mugu, California 93042-5001, or contact Mr. Son Nguyen
at (805) 989-0014/E-Mail "nguyens@mugu.navy.mil." All the RFI responses
should be submitted by 31 October 1997. Responses will not be
considered as proposals, and neither this announcement nor the RFI
should be construed as a request for proposal. All information
contained in the RFI is preliminary and subject to modification and is
in no way binding on the government. Responses should include the name
and telephone number of a point of contact having authority and
knowledge to discuss responses with government representatives. (0273) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0220 19971002\66-0002.SOL)
