A -- IN VITRO ANTIVIRAL SCREENS SOL NIH-NIAID-DMID-98-11 DUE 011698 POC Cyndie Cotter, Contracting Officer, (301) 402-0641 The Virology Branch of the Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), NIH, has a requirement to perform in vitro screening of compounds for their ability to inhibit the growth and/or replication of herpesviruses (HSV, CMV, VZV, EBV), respiratory viruses (influenza, parainfluenza, respiratory syncytial virus, measles), and hepatitis B and C viruses . The contractor(s) shall provide the necessary equipment, personnel, facilities and materials to screen approximately 200 compounds annually. The Contractor(s) shall be responsible for determining a compound's antiviral activity, cytotoxicity, and selective index. Research on the development of improved screening methodology, studies on mechanism of action, and studies of efficacy of drug combinations will be an adjunct to the primary antiviral evaluation. It is anticipated that up to four (4) cost-reimbursement, completion contracts will be awarded for a period of five (5) years each, beginning approximately September 30, 1998.
