request for proposal. Applicable to: KC-135. The Air Force is adding an
Altitude Alerter to the KC-135 aircraft. Candidates must be Non
Developmental Items (NDI) capable of utilizing existing aircraft
altitude signals. System Compliance: (1) FAA approved, TSP C88a. (2)
C/KC-135 operational environment, testing per DO-160. System Functions:
Provide appropriate audio and visual warnings upon approaching a
selected altitude and deviation from an envelope surrounding an
assigned altitude (selection in 100 ft increments acceptable). Digital
display of altitude from -1000 to +55000 ft. in 100 ft increments.
Accepts ARINC 429 data (altitude) or Grey Code (both inputs desired).
Audio Tone internal to the alerter is acceptable (desire for external
signal to crew headsets). Audio Tone and visual signal time durations
can be pre-set (desire to be user-defined). Physical Characteristics.
The alerter must be small enough to be placed on the -135 glareshield.
(1) Size should not exceed 1.6 inches (H), 3.5 inches (W), and 6
inches (L). Weight shall not exceed 1.5 lbs. A standard rectangular 1/2
ATI configuration preferred. (2) Viewability angle plus or minus 60
degrees from centerline horizontally and plus or minus 30 degrees from
centerline vertically (up and down). (3) Single Control for Altitude
selection through adjustable knob/dial or push button. (4) Power
requirements of 115VAC/400Hz, or 28VDC. Maximum of 1 amp or 30 watts.
