A -- CLINICAL RESEARCH AND TRIAL PREPARATION SITES IN ENDEMIC AREAS SOL NIH-NIAID-DMID-98-19 DUE 012398 POC Carl Henn, Contracting Officer, (301) 496-0993; E-MAIL: ch24v@nih.gov The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) has a requirement to operate and maintain field sites in endemic areas for the study of malaria transmission and pathogenesis. Ongoing studies will provide information with respect to epidemiology, parasite populations, vector biology, immunity, and other factors influencing clinical presentation, as well as provide the opportunity for development and validation of case-definitions and field-appropriate diagnostics which will be valuable for clinical trials. These sites will also provide research reagents (e.g. parasite isolates, cells/sera from individuals with different forms of malaria) to the NIAID Malaria Research and Reference Reagent Repository. The contracts will include an option for expansion at individual sites to conduct safety, immunogenicity and efficacy testing of candidate vaccines as they become available. It is anticipated that three (3) to five (5) contracts will be awarded for a period of five (5) years, beginningapproximately September 27, 1998.
