Crane Division, Code 1165, Naval Surface Warfare Center, 300 Highway 361, Crane, IN 47522-5001

58 -- UNDERWATER SONAR COMMUNICATION SET DUE 110797 POC Ms. Kathy King, 812-854-3734, FAX 812-854-3465/5666, Ms. Betty Gaiser, Contracting Officer, 812-854-3735 E-MAIL: Click here to contact the contracting officer via e-mail, gaiser_b@crane.navy.mil. Sources are sought and information requested on all underwater telephone systems that perform or could be modified to perform the requirements listed below. The underwater telephone used in many Naval applications is the AN/WQC-2A sonar communication set. Information gathered will help determine possible candidates for Commercial Off the Shelf /Non Developmental Item (COTS/NDI) applications which interface with and /or supplant the AN/WQC-2A on Navy vessels. Requirements are the following: High Frequency (HF) operation: 8.3 to 11.1 kHz upperside band; Maximum HF transmit power: at least 600VA; HF receiver sensitivity : -170dBV, 1Hz bandwidth; HF transducer interface: Able to use TR-233; HF transducer inputs: 3(TOP, SAIL, BOTTOM); Low frequency (LF) operation: 1.45 to 3.1 kHz lower side band; Maximum LF transmit power: at least 1000 VA; LF receiver sensitivity -160dBV, 1 Hz bandwidth, LF transducer interface: Able to use TR-232; Voice mode operation; effectively communicate with existing AN/WQC-2A Sonar Communication Sets on existing platforms; Continuous Wave operation; 750 Hz in audio band. Auxiliary Mode 1 operation: This mode allows the signal to be extracted from the Sonar Communication Set after the driver amplifier and before the final amplifier (J6 in the AN/WQC-2A) . Aux 1 would be used on ships with main active sonars when directional and/or higher power transmission is required (CG, DD, DDG, & SSN). Auxiliary Mode 2 operation: this mode allows a signal to be inserted right before the driver amplifier (J4 in the AN/WQC-2A) utilizing the Sonar Communication Set's driver amplifier and final amplifier. Optional extraction of the signal occurs right after the final amplifier (J5 in the AN/WQC-2A). Aux 2 is used in conjunction with AN/SLQ-48(V), Mine Neutralization System interface. This is critical for mine warfare use. External Monitor Outputs (J8 for LF and J9 for HF in the AN/WQC-2A: Monitors receiver preamplifier outputs. External Tape Recording Equipment Output (J7 in the AN/WQC-2A) Used to record activity with any standard tape recorder. Used on AEGIS destroyers (DDG), AEGIS cruisers (CG)and perhaps used on SSNs. Directional Sonar Receive Inputs (J10 on the AN/WQC-2A): Interfaces with the AN/BQQ-6 Main Sonar on SSBNs. It is highly probable that it interfaces with the AN/BQQ-5 Main Sonar on SSNs and the AN/SQS-26/53 Main Sonars on CGs, DDS and DDGs. External Muting Input Signals (J16 and J17 in the AN/WQC-2A: Gives the ability for external muting of receive signals. Used with SQS-56. Probably used with SQS-53. External Muting Output Signal (J18). Gives an output that could be used to mute another system. Used with SQS-56 on FFG-7 Class. Probably used with SQS-53; Remote control capability (like manner as Unit 2 of AN/WQC-2A). Utilize ship's power (Type 1) (115V + or -- 11V, 60Hz, AC, Single Phase, 35 A Max, Min Power Factor of 0.8 Lagging.) Desirable Characteristics are non-intrusive self test capabilities and built in transducer testing capabilities. Submit any manuals (technical, operational, maintenance, etc. ), maintenance schedules, preventative maintenance documentation, and any other technical information that would be helpful in evaluating your system. The following logistic elements are of interest to us: availability of technical support; warranty information; supply support for parts and recommended spare parts necessary; support equipment required for operation, maintenance, testing, and calibration; training requirements and training support requirements; manpower and personnel requirements for operation and maintenance; any computer resources support requirements; reliability and maintainability (R&M) guarantees including environmental stress screening system; safety information; any other logistic information. Include anticipated delivery time. This notice is for information gathering purposes only. Applicable literature of your commercial or modified commercial item may be sent to NAVSURFWARCENDIV, Code 1165ZD, 300 Hwy 361, Crane IN 47522-5011 or telefax number listed above. E-mail address is gaiser_b@smtp.crane.navy. mil. (0280)
