Library of Congress is seeking requests for quotations for design
assistance in the planning design, fabrication and installation phases
for an exhibition entitled, "African-American Odyssey: The Quest for
Full Citizenship", in the Northwest Curtain and Pavilion of the Thomas
Jefferson Building. This space consists of two adjoining areas
totaling approximately 6,000 square feet in size. It is highly
decorated with mosaic tile floors, decorative painting, and murals.
This exhibition consists of approximately 200 items and has two small
related displays at other locations within the Library. The exhibition
will be the first time that the Library's vast collection of
African-American history and culture is presented in a major
installation. Time is of the essence as the exhibition opens on
February 5, 1998, and closes on May 2, 1998. This exhibition will
include a wide variety of materials: rare books, photographs, prints,
paintings, drawings, manuscripts, maps, charts, and plans. This
exhibition mustbe designed using existing sets of cases and walls,
designing supplementary elements only when or if necessary. To complete
this work, the designer is required to work closely with Library staff,
be able to meet at the Library on short notice, and abide by a very
