COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 20,1997 PSA#1954PRE-PROPOSAL CONFERENCE A Pre-Proposal Conference for offerors
interested in the upcoming Lithium Ion Battery Development Program
co-sponsored by DOD/NASA will be held at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory
(JPL), 4800 Oakgrove Drive, Pasadena CA 91109, Building 167 Conference
Room, on 97 Oct 30 from 1300 -- 1700 hours. Those interested in
attending must notify Mr. Daniel Pinion of JPL at telephone no.
818-354-3232 or e-mail address danielpinion@jpl.nasa.gov on or before
1630 hours on 97 Oct 27. Due to limited parking, all conference
registrants should be on site 30 -- 60 minutes prior to the start of
the meeting. The objective of the impending program is to develop
lithium ion rechargeable batteries for a wide variety of aerospace
applications. Single cells and batteries will be designed, developed,
fabricated and tested. Parametric studies will be performed on anode
materials, electrolyte formulations, cathode chemistry and physical
properties and overall cell materials of construction. Cell sizes
ranging from 5 to 200 ampere-hours will be designed and tested.
Electrical and environmental performance evaluations will be conducted
and cell/battery designs will be traded-off to optimize battery
performance for the intended application. Environmental requirements of
operation over a wide temperature range (-40 C to +70 C) and
withstanding modern aircraft/space delivery system shock and vibration
will be assessed. Battery designs in the 28 to 270 volt range will be
developed. The battery system refers to the battery integrated with
the controller/charger. This overall effort will develop the smart
battery system for use in various aerospace applications from aircraft
to spacecraft. It is anticipated that multiple awards will be made
under this solicitation. Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0363 19971020\SP-0012.MSC)
