COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 22,1997 PSA#1956NOMINATIONS FOR STAKEHOLDER INVOLVEMENT IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY
VERFICATION PROGRAM FOR ADVANCED MONITORING SYSTEMS The National
Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL), Office of Research and
Development(ORD), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA),
Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina 27711, has awarded an
assistance agreement for an Environmental Technology Verification (ETV)
testing program for Advanced Monitoring Systems to Battelle in
Columbus, Ohio. This program is designed to systematically conduct
verification testing on commercially available technologies that are
used to characterize environmental contaminants in air, water, and
soil. The program's objective is to accelerate the acceptance and use
of promising, innovative technologies and to provide objective
performance data to potential purchases and regulators. At present,
Battelle is establishing Stakeholder Groups for air, water, and soil
monitoring technologies. It is anticipated that stakeholders will
provide critical input from various perspectives on implementing the
verification program through the three-year duration of this ETV Pilot
Program. The Stakeholder Groups will assist Battelle in developing an
overall verification testing strategy and verification test schedule.
The strategy will include establishing media and technology
verification priorities. Stakeholder Groups will guide the development
of verification plans and test protocols, assist in the selection of
technologies for verification testing, and review verification reports.
The Stakeholder Groups are anticipated to be comprised of 25-30
representatives from the following groups of organizations: US EPA,
other Federal Agencies, the States, the Regulated Communities,
Technology Vendors and Developers, Users, Associations representing the
Regulated Community, Measurement Technology Manufacturers groups,
Financial Investment groups, Insurance Underwriters, Research
Institutions, other Environmental Groups, and other interested
organizations or representatives. The Stakeholder Groups are
tentatively scheduled to meet twice during each year of the program at
a location to be designated. Interested parties may submit their own
names as stakeholders or recommend others. Please include the complete
