(DOE) is hereby revising its notice of intent to issue a Request For
Proposals (RFP) for Lead Test Assembly (LTA) Shipping Cask and
Transportation Services. As part of the in-reactor demonstration
portion of the Commercial Light Water Reactor Tritium Production
Project, DOE is irradiating 32 Tritium Producing Burnable Absorber Rods
(TPBARs) for one operational cycle at the Tennessee Valley Authority's
Watts Bar Nuclear Plant beginning in the Fall of 1997. Eight TPBARs
configure one LTA. Four LTAs will be ready for transportation by July
1999 for post irradiation examination to be performed at undesignated
examination facilities. This RFP pursues the acquisition of cask
packaging and transportation services to prepare, package and securely
transport four LTAs from Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, near Spring City,
Tennessee, to the examination facilities. The requirements include: 1)
cask certification, transportation planning services, technical
assistance and related documentation; 2)LTA Transportation Services.
The following qualification criterion is applicable: proposers must
own, or have under contract, a legal weight truck shipping cask that
meets the requirements of 10 CFR 71. The RFP will be released on or
about November 7, 1997 and will be posted on the DOE Chicago INTERNET
Home Page at http://www.ch.doe.gov/business/ACQ.htm. To access and
