This is not a solicitation notice. The U.S. Geological Survey has prepared for industry comment a preliminary specification and related information for charting software requirements. The scope of charting is limited to the 1-D and 2-D variety excluding 3-D surfaces, volumes and GIS. The software needs to allow implementation on various computer platforms. The minimum implementation requirements need to provide a Windows-based, graphical user interface, applications programming ability, and high-level scripting tools for process automation (batch processing) and chart-type customization. No formal solicitation or contract will result from this synopsis. Any subsequent formal solicitation will be synopsized prior to its release. Comments received as a result of this review may be incorporated into the final specification and related information. The RFC may be obtained on the WEB at http://www.usgs.gov/contracts or upon written request. No telephone requests for the RFC document will be accepted. Any comments in response to this RFC must be received within 30 days after issuance of the RFC document. The Government does not intend to pay for the information solicited except as provided in subsection 31.205-18, Independent research and development and bid and proposal costs, of the Federal Acquisition Regulation.
