researching replacement options for their aging fleet of mobile welding
systems. In order to form a comprehensive collection of the various
welding systems available, MARCORSYSCOM is requesting information in
the form of brochures and letters of interest from the manufacturers of
mobile welding systems. Some features which are of interest to the
Marine Corps are as follows: a trailer mounted welding system/unit
which (1) is capable of performing Gas, Gas Metal Arc, Gas Tungsten
Arc, Shielded Metal Arc, Fluxed Core Arc, Air Carbon Arc Gouging, and
Plasma Cutting (2) is not government unique and has been on the market
for at least one year (3) is equipped with a deck mounted
generator/welder, compressor, and pressure cylinders for oxygen,
propylene, argon, and CO2 with full length weatherproof enclosures
which are padlock secured for stowage of equipment (4) contains reels
inside enclosure for stowing hoses, chords, and cables along with
compartments forstowing equipment and consumables (5) has a
transportable, padlock secured enclosure whose sides fold down as work
surfaces (6) has lifting eyes for sling handling of entire unit (7)
has a rotary air compressor delivering at least .17 m^3/min @ 690 kPa
(6 cfm @ 100 psi ) (8) has equipment and controls for the air cooled
GTAW unit built into the welder/generator or included as accessory
items (9) has a skid mounted basic welding machine which can be removed
from the assembly and lifted by a 10k forklift (10) has a life
expectancy of 10 years (11) is capable of storage and operation without
special preparation in temperatures ranging from -31 C to 52 C (-25 F
to 125 F) in all environments, and is provided with a weatherproof
cover for protection during periods of nonuse (12) is mounted to a
HMMWV compatible Marine Corps trailer or is capable of being towed by
a HMMWV (13) is provided with controls and equipment to allow welding
up to 15.25 m (50 ft.) from the main unit, including hi-low idle
sensing when welding (14) is powered by a liquid cooled, diesel engine
driven alternator/generator (15) has a welder/generator which (a) is
capable of AC and DC constant current output of 40 to 250 amp for
manual welding (b) is rated at 250 amp 100% duty cycle (c) produces
10kW 115/230 V, 60 Hz AC, with two 20 amp 115 V duplex receptacles and
one 50 amp 115/230 V receptacle capable of 43 amp at 230 V (d) has
shock absorbing deck mounts and weather protection which provide access
and security when generator is removed (e) weighs a maximum of 500 kg
(1100 lb) dry (f) has sound attenuation to < 75 dB @ 7.62 m (25 ft)
with a vertical exhaust protected from the weather (g) has an engine
hour meter, oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and volt and
amp gauges. Interested parties should send technical brochures and
letters of interest to COMMANDER, ATTN: T. J. McGINN, MARCORSYSOM, 2033
