842-6738 Imagine if you couldn t catch your breath simply because of
stress, or dust, or a bad air pollution day? Almost 5 million children
in the United States can t breath because of asthma. Asthma is one of
the nation s most common and costly diseases and it affects more than
15 million Americans. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) is looking for a dynamic advertising agency willing to provide
pro bono collaboration to develop a campaign that calls attention to
this serious and costly disease. Between 1982 and 1997, the prevalence
of asthma in the United States increased by 46%. Asthma prevalence
increased in all age, race, and gender groups; but the increase was
most significant among persons under 18 years of age, where the
prevalence increased 80%. People with asthma experience more than 100
million days of restricted activity each year. Children with asthma
miss an average of twice as many school days as other children. The
cost of asthma is also increasing at an alarming rate. In 1990,the cost
of asthma was $6.2 billion, it is projected that in 2000 the cost of
asthma will be $14.5 billion. CDC s role in asthma prevention is to
ensure that proven asthma interventions are implemented in State and
local health agencies, in close partnership with communities and health
care providers. Agencies wishing to participate with CDC in this
project should contact via letter or FAX -- Wanda Allison, Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, Procurement and Grants Office, CPB,
255 East Paces Ferry Rd, NE, Room 419, Atlanta, GA 30309 or FAX Number
404/842-6896 within 30 days of the publication of this notice. No
Request for Proposals will be issued. Responses to this notice will be
evaluated based on the detail of the steps outlined, time lines, and
products to be developed. Upon CDC s selection of a participating
agency, a memorandum of understanding will be executed between CDC and
the agency. This is not a procurement opportunity. (0304) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0073 19971104\R-0012.SOL)
