The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has a requirement for polyethylene bottles and closures (caps) for delivery to the USGS in Ocala, Florida. The bottles will be used as shipping containers for water samples from field offices to the Quality Water Service Unit and the National Water Quality laboratory for analysis. The polyethylene bottles shall have a wall thickness of .030 inches or 1 millimeter (mm). The bottles shall be narrow mouth with a neck size of 28-410mm and of a shape known in the industry as "Modern Round" (wide sloping shoulders) for the 125, 250, 500, and 1,000 ml sizes. The bottle closures shall be black and clear plastic with a foam liner. The liner shall mold itself around sealing areas of the finish as it is screwed on and shall be secured to closure so it cannot become dislodged or fall out. The physical properties of the foam-lined cap are as follows: Thickness Range -- .045" to .055", Standard Density -- 22 lb./ft. 3 yield, 1.70 yd. 2/lb. To .90 yd. 2/lb., Structure coextruded polyethylene, with no adhesives, chemically fused into a single polymeric product. The performance period is a base year and two 1-year option periods. This will be a requirements type contract. Commercial item procedures in accordance with FAR Part 12 are being used for this acquisition. The total estimated quantities for each of the 3 years is 50,500 125 milliliter natural colored bottles; 150,000 250 milliliter natural colored bottles; 57,600 500 milliliter natural colored bottles; 54,000 1000 milliliter natural colored bottles; 148,500 125 milliliter amber colored bottles; 99,900 clear colored polypropylene caps; and 297,000 black colored polypropylene caps. Solicitation No. 1434-HQ-98-SS-00410 will be made available on/about November 17, 1997, via Internet at the following address: http://www.usgs.gov/contracts/.
