COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF NOVEMBER 10,1997 PSA#1969Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, 60 Garden Street, Cambridge,
Massachusetts, 02138-1596 99 -- CONCAVE MIRROR SOL RFP548-11-97 DUE 123097 POC Peter W.
Sozanski, TEL. (617)495-7376, FAX (617)496-7692 The Smithsonian
Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) requires the fabrication, test, and
delivery of a concave mirror with a diametral clear aperture of 41.674
inches and a finished diameter of 42.174 inches. The mirror will be
spherical, and the radius of curvature will be 53.1777 inches. A
generated substrate, which will be Zerodur with a central thickness of
1.55 inches, will be provided by SAO to the contractor. The mirror
will be coated with overcoated UV-enhanced silver or the equivalent.
Low order surface errors, characterized by Zernike polynomials through
third order will be 2 waves RMS or better. Mid-spatial frequency
error, characterized by RMS slope errors, will be 3.5 microradians RMS
or better. Surface microroughness will be 20 angstrom RMS or better.
A MIL 60/40 scratch-dig specification will be achieved. A small, 2.4
inch diameter hole will be drilled through the mirror at the center for
alignment purposes. Proposers may coat the optic, or optionally propose
that SAO undertake coating. The desired delivery date for the completed
optic is on or before 1 October 1998. Only written, fax (FAX
#617/496-7692), or Internet (psozanski@cfa.harvard.edu) requests
received directly from the requester are acceptable. All responsible
sources may submit an offer. No telephone requests for the solicitation
package will be accepted. (0310) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0258 19971110\99-0004.SOL)
