University of California, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, seeks
sources for the design, fabrication, and installation of a teleoperated
manipulator and associated track/rail system for use at the National
Ignition Facility (NIF). The system is for the service and maintenance
of optical components located around the upper, external surface of a
sphere. The system consists of a 6 meter diameter track /rails to
position the manipulator and a six degree of freedom manipulator. The
manipulator shall be capable of positioning a 550 Kg load at a reach of
5 meters. The manipulator must operate in very confined spaces and be
capable of retracting into a small volume stowed position. The
manipulator shall be manually controlled, teleoperated, with force feed
back and teach and repeat control features. The operator shall be
located near the load. Fabrication, Installation, final acceptance, and
operator training shall be coordinated with the NIF construction
schedule. Interested firms shall have past experience in systems (or
subsystems) of this nature and should respond with a description of
qualifications with respect to the foregoing or related fields. The
small business size standard applicable to the proposed acquisition is
500 employees. Firms qualifying as a small business with respect to
this standard should so state. Responses are required on or before
December 15, 1997. Firms responding to this announcement that fail to
provide the required information will not be considered for inclusion
