UNTREATED CONDITION POC David West, (98W01), Source Development
Analyst, 912-926-9526 THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ONLY. THIS IS
NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS OR AN INDICTION THAT THE AIR FORCE INTENDS
TO CONTRACT FOR SERVICES. THE AIR FORCE WILL NOT PAY FOR INFORMATION
RECEIVED IN RESPONSE TO THIS REQUEST FOR INFORMATION. WR-ALC generates
from 100,000 to 200,000 pounds of wasted walnut hulls, glass beads,
and aluminum oxide blast media per year. The waste is approximately 50
percent glass beads, 31 percent walnut hulls, and 19 percent aluminum
oxide The waste is segregated by type (glass beads, walnut hulls,
aluminum oxide). A typical analysis indicated that the glass beads are
contaminated with 18 MG/L cadium and 10 MG/L lead. The walnut hulls
are contaminated with 28 MG/L cadmium, 6 MG/L chromium, and 6 MG/L
lead. The aluminum oxide is contaminated with 28 MG/L cadmium. The
toxic metals, cadmium, chromium, and lead may vary from sample to
sample. Presently WR-ALC is disposing of the used media in a landfill
as hazardous waste. WR-ALC is also investigating treatment methods to
remove the toxic metals from the media. WR-ALC IS INTERESTED IN
IDENTIFYING CONTRACTORS THAT CAN USE THE USED BLAST MEDIA IN SOME
COMMERCIAL APPLICATION IN EITHER A TREATED OR UNTREATED CONDITION.
Interested sources should submit written responses that contain the
following information: Company Name, Address, Point of Contact, Cage
Code, Phone Number, and Size of Business. Respondents should also
provide a description of how the used media would be used (identify the
commercial product or process the media would be used in), AND give an
indication if the used media could be use untreated or that the toxic
metals would have to be removed form the media before it could be used
. Large and small businesses are encouraged to participate in this
survey. All responses to this request should be received no later than
30 days from the date of this publication. The responses should be
submitted to David West (98W01), 180 Page Road, Robins AFB GA
