The Chicago Operations Office of the Department of Energy (DOE) intends to issue a draft Request For Proposals (RFP) for mixed oxide (MOX) fuel fabrication and reactor irradiation services. As stated in the DOE's Office of Fissile Materials Program Acquisition Strategy (PAS) for obtaining MOX Fuel Fabrication and Reactor Irradiation Services, and integral part of the MOX fuel approach is the acquisition from the private sector of MOX fuel fabrication and reactor irradiation services. The purpose of the draft RFP is to describe the DOE's intended approach for acquiring these services and to request comments from prospective offerors in advance of the final RFP. The draft RFP will be released for comment on or about November 21, 1997. Comments resulting from the August 28, 1997 Program Acquisition Strategy Workshop, held at the DOE Chicago Operations Office, were considered by DOE in preparing the draft RFP. A review conference for the draft solicitation is planned for December 11, 1997. Questions, discussions and other input from potential offerors regarding the draft RFP document are expected and encouraged at the conference. Comments on the draft solicitation are encouraged through January 16, 1998.
