Z -- REMOVAL OF CHROME PLATING FACILITY FROM INDUSTRIAL BUILDING SOL 056&&&-9711-0002 POC Contract Specialist/Contracting Officer John Palmer, 518-266-5618,fax 518-266-4682 (Site Code W16H1F) Requirement is for the disassembly and removal of a former chrome plate facility used to plate 8" cannon barrels at Watervliet Arsenal. Items to be removed include strutural steel, fiberglass, copper bussbars and wiring, asbestos-wrapped piping and other components. All items are currently contaminated with chromium and corrosives (such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and sodium hydroxide). The government will furnish a heated caustic dip tank to allow contractor to decontaminate all items removed from the facility. The government will also furnish a crane and rigging support for the contractor's disassembly effort. This will be a no-cost contract where the sole renumeration will be the salvage value of the items removed from the facility. The contractor will be responsible for disposing of all items removed, with the government responsible for disposing of spent decontamination fluids. A site visit will be required. All workers engaged in activities in close proximity to contaminated items must be HAZWOPER trained and certified in accordance with OSHA requirements at 29 CFR 1910.120. Asbestos abatement will be required for the removal of asbestos wrapped piping and must be performed in compliance with NYS Industrial Code Rule 56. It is intended this work will commence approximately February 1998. A complete specification will be issued with the solicitation. At this time a solicitation number has not been assigned.
