Grant Funds Available for Bioenergy Projects The Western Regional Biomass Energy Program plans on selecting approximately $900,000 in bioenergy projects for funding in 1998. The goal of the selected projects shall be to increase the production and use of biomass energy resources for economic development and environmental sustainability or to evaluate biomass resources in the region. Education and outreach projects on biomass can also be funded. Funds are not available for basic research. Funds are available to for-profit businesses, non-profit organizations, professional consultants and educational institutions. The typical funding maximum for specific projects is $75,000. Larger grants may be available for exceptional projects. These are federal Department of Energy funds and require non-federal matching funds. A match of 1:1 is preferred. Proposals must be received at the offices of the Western Regional Biomass Energy Program P.O. Box 95085, 1111 "O" Street, Suite 223, Lincoln, NE 68509-5085 no later than 4:30 p.m. CST on January 15, 1998. Fax or email applications will not be accepted. Projects must be located in or have a significant impact on the Western Region. The Western Region includes the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Wyoming.
